Harriers take step forward

Boone Central/Newman Grove’s cross country teams showed solid improvement in their second meet of 2013, placing third in the girls and boys divisions of the Norfolk Catholic Invitational Friday, Sept. 20.

“We had a really good day at Norfolk. Cooler weather really made things easier for us, but also, the kids learned a lot last week,” said Cardinal Coach Tom Dickey. “Our goal was to get back to our plan of running as a group and that really worked. Because of the work they did together, we pulled in 11 medals! This success has to produce more desire to be better as a team.
“I was really pleased with the way Catherine (Weeder) ran her race – very smooth and consistent. Cody Shanno finally got over a knee problem and looked much better.
“I also need to mention Rob Rozeboom and Will Dyer because of their very impressive improvement since last season.”
Weeder led the Lady Cardinals with an impressive second-place effort in 21:23. Sheldon Beierman also placed in the top ten, taking 10th with a time of 22:08.
