The Boone Central/Newman Grove volleyball team dropped to 5-10, winning just one of five matches this past week against some stiff road competition.
The Lady Cards traveled to St. Paul Tuesday, Sept. 24, for triangular action.
The host St. Paul Wildcats (13-2) defeated Boone Central/Newman Grove 25-15, 25-14 to open the night. BC/NG battled long and hard in its second match, dropping a tough 29-27, 25-20 decision to Adams Central (6-8).
Boone Central/Newman Grove competed in the Adams Central Invite Saturday and, although the Cardinals won just one of three matches, Coach Susan Roberts saw some positives from her team.
“We played three competitive games and are really seeing some good things,” Roberts said. “Our defense and blocking are really starting to come together and we are getting more good blocks and digs that we are converting into offense.
“Our biggest challenge is still consistency in our attack and unforced errors.”
In the first of a trio of three-set affairs, BC/NG dropped a 19-25, 25-21, 15-25 decision to Centura (9-7). The Cardinals got the week’s lone victory by rallying over Centennial (3-12) 22-25, 25-17, 25-11. Boone Central/Newman Grove fought Fillmore Central (11-4) for three sets before falling 25-23, 20-25, 15-25.
