The Boone Central/Newman Grove cross country teams added another successful chapter to the program’s history in Thursday’s Class C-3 District competition at Skyview Lake in Norfolk.
With runner-up team finishes in both the girls’ and boys’ races, BC/NG assured that Cardinal cross country would be represented at the state meet for a 40th consecutive season.
An impressive standard achieved by another impressive performance.
“I was really proud of our kids. It was a tough day to run confidently due to the quick weather change and high winds,” praised Card Coach Tom Dickey. “The kids had some simple goals to accomplish, which could lead to a successful race. All of those goals were met and we had really good results.”
The Lady Cardinals finished a scant two points back of district champion Wayne, as Catherine Weeder (4th), Sheldon Beierman (6th) and Christina Stopak (10th) all secured top 10 finishes. The BC/NG boys also took second behind Fort Calhoun, with Trevor Salber (8th) and Andrew Rasmussen (9th) cracking the top 10 individually.
All 12 Boone Central/Newman Grove runners competing ran new personal-best times.
