Although tough competition cut their appearances short, Nolan Wondercheck and Joel Meyer of Boone Central/Newman Grove gained valuable experience in the 2014 Nebraska State Wrestling Championships Feb. 20-22 at Omaha’s CenturyLink Center.
“Nolan got off to a rough start, facing the eventual Class B runner-up at his weight in the first round,” noted Cardinal Coach Dale Bonge. “He came back in the first consolation round to pick up the lone win for the team. In his third match, he fell to another medalist.
“Joel also had a rough draw, as he too started off against an eventual medalist. His second opponent came up just short of the medals.
“Both Nolan and Joel represented their schools well and gained vaulable experience they can use to better themselves and our team for next year.”
