Cardinals honored by Mid-State Conference

Seniors Jade Gottier, Derek Gentrup and Tyler Hedlund were selected to the Mid-State All-Conference teams, while senior Miranda Ketteler and juniors Kaitlyn Stuhr and Travis Kennedy received All-Conference Honorable Mention.

The three Cardinals selected All-Conference for the 2013-14 season left their marks on Boone Central/Newman Grove programs with team and individual achievements. All three occupy numerous positions on Boone Central’s all-time record charts.

Jade Gottier was listed as a 5-foot-9 guard, but was the epitome of an all-around player for Boone Central/Newman Grove. She was selected Mid-State All-Conference for the second straight year, after receiving honorable mention as a sophomore.
In 2013-14, Gottier led the Lady Cardinals in scoring (16.7 ppg), two-point field goals (101-of-233, 43%), three-point field goals (25-of-76, 33%), free throws (124-of-155, 80%), rebounds (7.6), steals (4.0), assists (2.7) and blocked shots (19).

Derek Gentrup and Tyler Hedlund were four-year varsity contributors for the Cardinal program and mainstays on Boone Central/Newman Grove’s consecutive state qualifying teams in 2013 and 2014.

With his 2013-14 honor, Gentrup joined Kraig Flanagan as the only players in Albion-Boone Central history selected All-Conference three times.
Gentrup, a 5-foot-11 guard/forward, was Boone Central/Newman Grove’s second-leading scorer this past season (14.6) and also second in rebounds (5.3), assists (2.7) and steals (2.0). He led the team in charges drawn (12), and was second in three-point field goals (21) and free throw percentage (74%).

Hedlund was selected Mid-State All-Conference for the second straight season in 2013-14 and also leaves behind numerous marks on the record chart
In fact, Hedlund, a 6-foot guard/forward, became the top all-time scorer in combined Albion-Boone Central history this year, finishing his career with 1,149 points. He also tops the combined chart for career assists with 268. Hedlund led BC/NG in scoring (16.6), assists (3.4), steals (2.2), three-point field goals (51) and free throw percentage in 2013-14.
