Study holds good news, challenges for Boone County economy

A recent economic and demographic study by Nebraska Public Power District revealed both positive news and continuing challenges for Boone County and its communities.
A positive trend indicated by the study was that Boone County’s non-farm employment increased by 16.3 percent (325 jobs) between 2003 and 2012. However, the county’s population continued to decline from 2010 to 2012.
Several Boone County communities, including Albion, St. Edward and Petersburg, continued to show positive “pull factors” in attracting retail trade.
