BC/NG golfers vie at Scotus, Mid-State Conference

With the weather finally cooperating, high school golf tournaments have been in full swing the past several weeks.
Boone Central/Newman Grove had a busy week, competing in the competitive Scotus Invitational at Columbus’ Quail Run Golf Course Thursday, April 24, and the annual Mid-State Conference Tournament at Wayne Country Club Saturday after hosting the previously-postponed Boone Central Invite Tuesday.
The Scotus Invitational includes 20 teams competing in two separate divisions.

Boone Central/Newman Grove was in the Watson Division, where the Cardinals placed fifth with a 382 team score. Scotus White won the division with a 346.
Junior Parker Wallin medaled for BC/NG, placing 12th individually with a 47/44-91. Senior Derek Gentrup missed a medal by one position. Although Gentrup tied for 15th with a 92 (47/45), he lost the tiebreaker for the final medal.
Others competing for the Cardinals at Columbus were sophomore Joel Meyer (55/43-98), senior Jackson Meyer (51/50-101) and freshman Blake Olnes (53/51-104).

Saturday was another challenging test for the Card golfers, facing the best of the Mid-State Conference at Wayne.
The Boone Central/Newman Grove varsity finished sixth in the nine-team field with a team total of 372, while the Cardinal JV placed third of seven in the Junior Varsity division.
BC/NG again had a medalist lead the way, as senior Tyler Hedlund placed seventh with a 40/45-85 score.
Rounding out Boone Central/Newman Grove’s varsity total were Gentrup (46/47-93), Wallin (49/45-94), Jackson Meyer (50/50-100) and Joel Meyer (45/56-101).
