Sheriff Johnson, Village Board discuss housing for new deputy

Petersburg Village Board held a lengthy discussion with Boone County Sheriff Denny Johnson regarding living arrangements for a new deputy to replace Mike Mapel, who is resigning Aug. 8 to accept employment with the Albion Police Department.
Sheriff Johnson said he may have difficulty in finding a new deputy to locate in Petersburg. He asked for help from the board in finding a house to rent.
According to the 2008 contract, the department is to provide one officer to live in the village.
