One driver dies when trucks collide at Highways 14/56

One driver died and another sustained serious injuries when two heavy trucks collided Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 20, at the intersection of Highways 14 and 56 in Boone County.
Harold D. Wonderscheck, 65, of Greeley, NE, was killed in the accident, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Department. He was driving a rendering truck southbound on Highway 14.
Scott Sternberg, 24, was driving a concrete pumper truck owned by Heartland Concrete of Columbus and was apparently eastbound on Highway 56, according to information from the Nebraska State Patrol. Stenberg was taken from the scene by helicopter to a trauma center.
A Nebraska State Patrol reconstruction team was working to determine the cause of the accident on Thursday.
Emergency responders were called to the scene at 4:54 p.m. and remained on scene until the area was cleared at about 2 a.m. Agencies involved included the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, Nebraska State Patrol, St. Edward Fire & Rescue and Albion Fire & Rescue.
