Boone Central golfers Melissa Kyncl and Kylee Sorell began the 2014 tournament schedule in impressive fashion Sept. 4, earning Top 10 finishes in the West Holt Invitational at Atkinson.
Kyncl, coming off an outstanding junior season in 2013, showed she was in top form with a runner-up performance behind Lexi Schommer of Hartington Cedar Catholic.
Kyncl fired rounds of 44-48 for an 18-hole total of 92 – two strokes back of Schommel, who posted scores of 43-47 for a 90.
Sorell, who had five Top 15 medal showings a year ago, took 10th at West Holt with nine-hole rounds of 56-53 and a 109 total.
Boone Central placed fourth in the team competition with a score of 465. Cedar Catholic won the event with a 438 total, followed by Battle Creek (443) and Valentine (457).
Sophomore Hannah Groth had her best varsity performance, placing 17th Friday with a 57/58-115 – just one stroke away from a Top 15 medal. First-year Cardinal golfer Lyndsey Figgner rounded out Boone Central’s team score with a 73/76-149.
