Kyncl brings home second consecutive gold medal

Boone Central senior Melissa Kyncl brought home her second consecutive gold medal as the Cardinals placed eighth in the Pierce Invitational golf tournament Saturday.
In blustery conditions, Kyncl fashioned an 18-hole total of 88 with rounds of 48/40 to edge West Point-Beemer’s Lacie Fox and Battle Creek’s Bridget Henn.

Both Kyncl and Fox toured the opening nine in 48, positioned in a four-way tie for fifth, but the Cardinal’s eight-stroke improvement on the back nine was one better than Fox could muster. Mackenzie Hale of West Holt, who fired a front-nine 44, placed fourth after coming back in 46.
Boone Central’s Kyley Sorell also medaled for the second time in 2014, placing 13th with a 53/50-103. Hannah Groth was 40th individually with a 58/63-121 round and first-year golfer Lyndsey Figgner rounded out the Cards’ team score with an 80/69-149.
