BC/NG runners make no excuses at Scotus Invite

No excuses!
That seemed to be the mantra of Boone Central/Newman Grove cross country runners this past Thursday.
Despite the adversity of facing probably the most difficult competition of the season to date at the Scotus Invitational and still having several athletes battling through illness and injury, the Cardinals stepped up to post impressive results once again.

Led by 4th place medalist Kendra Gonzalez, the BC/NG Lady Cardinals were runners-up to powerful host Scotus, while the Card boys scored their own solid 3rd place finish.
“Scotus always runs a tough meet,” noted BC/NG Coach Tom Dickey. “There were plenty of tough teams there, but I think we held up really well.”
The girls race featured an especially stacked field in terms of quality.
“There were several very highly-rated teams competing, so for us to come home with the runner-up trophy was saying a lot,” Dickey praised. “Scotus is clearly the best team in Class C right now and Norfolk Catholic is one of the top teams in Class D. Wayne and ourselves are as good as anyone else in Class C.”

Dickey was also impressed by his boys’ squad, paced by 6th place medalist Andrew Rasmussen.
“The boys competition wasn’t quite as tough, but they still found ways to run extremely competitively,” he said. “Andrew ran by far his best race of the young season, defeating several kids who had soundly beaten him the past two meets.”
