Senior Melissa Kyncl continued her stellar season and the Boone Central girls golf team scored its best finish of the season in golfing action this past week.
The Cardinals traveled to Pawnee Hills Golf Course Sept. 23 and placed second in a small five-team Fullerton Invitational tournament. Boone Central shot a 422 team score to fall between champion Scotus (369) and host Fullerton (446). Also competing were Heartland (451) and Shelby/Rising City (460).
Kyncl was the individual gold medalist, with rounds of 42/43. Her 85 total was three strokes better than runner-up Emerson Belitz of Scotus.
Two Cards just missed a top ten medal. Hannah Groth finished 11th with a 56/54-110 and Kyley Sorell was 12th with a 58/53-111. Lyndsey Figgner completed the team total with her best score of the season, finishing 58/58-116.
Boone Central found the competition a bit more daunting Thursday in the annual Meteer Invitational at Wayne. The Cards finished in 15th place, as they competed with just three scoring golfers.
Kyncl had no problems, however, registering a runner-up finish with an 87 over the 18-hole Wayne Country Club layout. Sorell was 22nd with a solid 106 total, while Groth finished 55th among the 78 individual golfers with a 122.
