For the second straight season, Melissa Kyncl of Boone Central ruled the Mid-State Conference Girls Golf Tournament, winning the individual gold medal Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Hartington Golf Course.
The Cardinals placed fifth in the team standings, which were tightly-bunched in the middle of the pack. BC/NG put together a 427 score, two strokes back of Pierce and six ahead of Norfolk Catholic.
Kyncl opened her day with a 42 on the front nine, giving her a two-stroke edge on Hartington Cedar Catholic’s Lexi Schommer. Both players carded 43 on their second nines to finish 1-2 at 85 and 87, respectively. Breanna Attema of Pierce (45/44-89) was the only other golfer to break 90 in the tournament.
Kyncl was backed by junior Kyley Sorell’s 54/53-106, good for 14th place in the individual standings. Sophomores Hannah Groth (59/59) and Lyndsey Figgner (64/54) each shot 118, finishing in a tie for 28th in the 38-player field.
