BC/NG concludes tough softball season

A very young team. A new coaching staff. A tough schedule.
Not a good recipe for Boone Central/Newman Grove softball success in 2014.
The Cardinals concluded a 3-21 campaign last Thursday with losses to Polk County and Aquinas in the C-5 District at Central City.

It doesn’t mean 2014 was a wasted season, however. Card Coach Danielle Amen was proud of her team’s competitiveness and said the experience gained will be beneficial in the future.
“Our record doesn’t give the girls justice for how much they have improved this season,” Amen commented. “They have worked extremely hard on the little things and on improving their fundamentals – and it has shown.”

Polk County, the eventual district runner-up, clipped BC/NG 11-1 in a game shortened to four innings by the 10-run rule. The Cardinal season came to a close with a 9-0 five-inning loss to Aquinas in loser’s bracket play. The Monarchs broke the contest open with an eight-run third inning.
