Card volleyers hope win sparks stretch momentum

Emma Grape (3)It was a sweep and a victory.
And Boone Central/Newman Grove volleyball Coach Susan Roberts hopes Thursday’s win over visiting West Holt will be the spark to ignite momentum for the looming stretch run of the 2014 season.

“I thought we took care of the ball really well,” Roberts said of her Cardinals’ performance in the 25-17, 25-22, 25-17 sweep. “We limited our errors and I felt we executed better when the game was tight.
“We have been disappointed, overall, with our win-loss record, but it’s not a true reflection of what our team is capable of. We are playing really well, we’ve played a lot of tough opponents and, prior to Thursday night, we’d played the last seven games with three different lineups due to starters missing different games.
“We’ve had several girls step in and do a great job and we gained valuable experience that will help us down the road. We hope we can have a more consistent lineup the remainder of the season. That will help us execute more consistently and play with more confidence as a team.”

Boone Central/Newman Grove also garnered wins in JV (25-19, 25-10) and 9th/10th (25-15, 18-25, 17-15) contests.
“It was a fun night for our whole team,” Roberts acknowledged. “All three teams executed well, kept their composure and played consistent ball.”
