Councilman Rutten retires, Porter begins first term

Don Rutten, l., and Jon PorterAlbion City Councilman Don Rutten completed his four-year term on the board last Tuesday, Dec. 9. It marked the end of more than 18 years of service in Albion city government.
Rutten first served on the council for 6 1/2 years in the 1970s and early 80s. He was then elected Albion’s Mayor, and served in that capacity for eight years, from 1985 to 1993.
After 17 years away from city government, he was again elected to the council in 2010 and served until the December meeting.
Councilman Rutten was thanked for his service by Mayor Jim Jarecki, the other councilmen and City Clerk/Administrator Andrew Devine.
New to the council is Albion native Jon Porter, who was sworn in Dec. 9 by City Attorney Darren Wright.
