Cards close to winning BC Dual Tournament

The Cardinal mat train is on track.
Although Boone Central/Newman Grove finished third in the team standings of the Boone Central Dual Invitational Saturday, the Cards were as close as two match outcomes from winning the event.
BC/NG went 3-2 in the six-team competition, defeating Wood River, Omaha South and G.I. Central Catholic. The Cardinals lost by 12 points to meet champion Norfolk Catholic due, largely, to four open-weight forfeits. Boys Town edged the hosts by six points in their other loss.

BC/NG Coach Dale Bonge certainly felt it was a promising day.
“We’re still not back at full strength, as three wrestlers were unable to participate due to injury or illness, but we did get the services of three guys who couldn’t go last Thursday against York,” Bonge commented. “We had a much-improved performance Saturday. If we turn around the outcome of one match in each of the duals we lost, we win them both.
“We were that close to winning the event.”
Indeed. In contested matches, Boone Central/Newman Grove was 24-15 overall. The Cardinals had an edge in individual wins against Norfolk Catholic (6-4), Wood River (4-2), Omaha South (7-2) and GICC (5-3). Boys Town won four of six matches against BC/NG.
Andy King (120) and Isaac Sullivan (285) each posted 5-0 marks and Steven Arreguin went 4-0. Ty Groth, Cody Shanno and Andrew Rasmussen were 4-1.
