The Boone Central boys bowling team kept a recent tradition rolling Saturday, qualifying for the Nebraska High School Bowling Federation State Tournament for a fourth straight year.
Boone Central, North Bend and Ogallala met in the C-1 District at Kearney, with two state berths on the line. The Cardinals nabbed second place behind North Bend and will now make the trip to Lincoln Feb. 14-15 for state competition.
“The boys bowled their best and hope to continue that at state,” noted Coach Dan Hemmer. “We look forward to returning to state for a fourth straight time.”
The district format consisted of three games and five ‘bakers,’ the two teams with high total series advancing to state.
Boone Central opened with a 634, as Lane Cornwell rolled 199. Bryce Kelley and Robbie Johnson each added a 149. Johnson bowled a 188 and Cornwell 149 as the Cards totaled 590 in game two. BC finished with its best game, 646, as Kelley rolled 176, Cornwell 171 and Johnson 169.
In the ‘bakers,’ Boone Central bowled 123, 112, 134, 116, 111. That gave the Cardinals a total of 2,466 and second place. North Bend finished with a 3,079 total and Ogallala totaled 2,221.
Cardinal bowlers are Lane Cornwell, Bryce Kelley, Robbie Johnson, Devin Knust, Ronald Gonzalez and Mack Nelson.
