‘Polar Bear Dip’ is February tradition

Costumed participants in the Polar Bear Dip.Cold water and warm spirits again marked the 11th annual Toma Rutten Memorial Polar Bear Dip at Mel’s Landing near Cedar Rapids last Saturday afternoon, Feb. 28.
A total of 46 “dippers” braved temperatures in the mid-20s to jump in the Cedar River as spectators cheered from the banks.
This year’s event raised about $1,500 for the Cedar Cares for Kids organization.
