Highway 56 crash claims Cedar Rapids man

Flaherty carA Cedar Rapids man died as a result of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle head on collision last Thursday, April 9, on Highway 56 west of St. Edward.
Gary L. Nauenburg, 62, of Cedar Rapids died at Boone County Health Center, Albion, after being rushed there following the 9:30 a.m. crash about two miles west of St. Edward.
Flaherty had been driving an eastbound 1986 GMC pickup on Highway 56 at the time of the crash.
Boone County Sheriff’s Department reported a 2014 Hyundai, driven by Timothy Flaherty, 69, of Lincoln, was traveling westbound on Highway 56. Eyewitnesses said the Flaherty vehicle was attempting to pass a semi tractor-trailer on the highway when it collided with the eastbound Nauenburg pickup.
Funeral services for Gary Nauenburg were held Monday, April 13, at St. John Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.
