BC/NG golfers tee off 2015 season

The Boone Central/Newman Grove boys golf team marked the opening of the 2015 season with dual and tournament play.
The Cardinals hosted Ord for a dual Tuesday, April 7, at the Albion Country Club.
The Ord varsity won the competition with a 163 nine-hole team score. Boone Central/Newman Grove’s varsity was second at 183. The Ord JV carded 187 and the BC/NG JV 280.
The Cards’ counting varsity scores were registered by Joel Meyer (43), Parker Wallin (44), Nathan Gottier (47) and Blake Olnes (49). Lane Cornwell shot 55.
BC/NG JV scores were led by Garrett Cornwell’s 61. Others were Zach Heying (68), Bryton Fowlkes (75), and Mack Nelson (76).

Boone Central/Newman Grove got its first taste of tournament action Friday at the Ord Invitational. The Cardinals had a rough day, finishing at the bottom of the 11-team field (450).
Host Ord was dominant in the meet, with the Chanticleer varsity (306) taking the tourney title and the Ord JV (349) placing fifth. GICC (311) was runner-up, followed by Valentine (338) and GINW (342).
Valentine’s Brooks Coleman took gold medal honors with an 18-hole 72. Ord’s Jaden Barnes (74) and Colton Zulkoski (75) were second and third. The Chants had five more golfers finish in the Top 15 medalists.
