County will proceed with new communications tower

Boone County Commissioners on Monday approved a motion to proceed with design and development work for a new county communications tower.
The proposed tower has been under discussion for several months.
Sheryl Machacek, county communications director, reported that soil testing has been completed for the proposed site in the southwest corner of the fairgrounds, and an inventory is being made of the various antennas to be installed on the tower. Nebraska Department of Aeronautics gave approval for the tower project several months ago.
A 300-foot communications tower is proposed. Early estimates of the structure cost were about $120,000.
