Trash rates could go up due to charges for recycling

A possible increase of 50 cents per customer in garbage pickup rates is being considered by the Albion City Council in order to maintain the current “mixed stream” or comingled recycling program.
Les Nienaber of Bud’s Sanitary Service told the council during its regular meeting April 14 that he has received notice from First Star Fiber of Omaha that they will begin charging for the comingled recycling loads he has hauled there.
He is asking all of his communities for an increase of 50 cents per household in all 17 communities he serves to pay the additional cost of recycling.
Details in the April 22 Albion News Print and E-Editions.
