Kyle Kramer tops 6 footAs the track and field season progresses, the competition gets tougher and tougher.
Facing some teams and athletes they hadn’t previously seen in 2015, the Boone Central/Newman Grove Cardinals fared admirably in the Dave Gee Invite at Grand Island Northwest High School Thursday, April 23.
The BC/NG Lady Cardinals placed second in the team standings and the Card boys finished in fifth place. Boone Central/Newman Grove athletes won three events in a stout field of competitors.
The results had Cardinal Coach Kris Pestel praising her athletes.

“We had a pretty good day against some really stiff competition,” Pestel said. “I am so proud of both teams’ progress to this point.
“All of our athletes have been giving great effort in practices and meets. Several have pushed through illness and nagging injuries and still achieved some great performances. The older kids are continuing to refine their skills and improving daily, and the younger kids are really coming on.
“In the next few weeks, as we approach the conference and district meets, we need to continue to improve our times and distances.”

Sheldon Beierman and Zac Glidden were the Cardinals winning individual events Thursday. Beierman captured the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 48.28 and Glidden used a leap of 20’8¼ to win the long jump. BC/NG also won the girls 4×400 meter relay, with Catherine Weeder, Taylor Starman, Dana Pelster and Beierman recording a time of 4:10.83.
