When you trail a team 4-1 on its home field in the bottom of the seventh inning (American Legion equivalent of the ninth), the outlook is usually not very bright.
The Albion Cornerstone Legion Seniors overcame those long odds Sunday, however, fashioning a dramatic rally – with some good fortune and help from Wakefield – and scoring an important 5-4 victory that secured a berth in the Area 5 district tournament championship round.

Albion Cornerstone again faced Wakefield (who eliminated Schuyler 7-0 Monday) Tuesday night, needing one victory for a second consecutive trip to the Nebraska American Legion Class B State Tournament. Wakefield needed to defeat Cornerstone twice to claim the Area 5 title and a state berth.

Albion Cornerstone opened the Area 5 tourney Friday with another close contest, edging Schuyler 4-2 with a three-run burst in the fourth inning. There was no second-round close shave for Albion Cornerstone, which defeated Pierce 8-0 behind a complete-game effort by Colton Pelster.
