Which flies higher, Cardinals or Eagles?
For one night in Albion, at least, there was no question, as the Boone Central/Newman Grove Cardinals sailed by O’Neill 25-13, 25-11, 25-14 in Thursday’s 2015 volleyball season-opener.
BC/NG Coach Susan Roberts was understandably pleased with her team’s performance.
“We played a well-executed game. We knew heading into the season that we needed to do three things really well – serve, serve receive and defense,” Roberts commented. “I feel we got off to a great start in those three areas.
“We served very aggressively and accurately – 90 percent with 11 aces. We were also 90 percent on serve receive and kept ourselves in system so we could execute our offense. We also played well on defense and were able to convert a lot of digs and get our blocking game going.
“We feel good about our overall ball control and consistency,” she added. “We’ll need to bring that efficiency into our match this week against #1 Guardian Angels.”
