The Boone Central/Newman Grove volleyball team wrapped up a 2-1 week with a solid victory at West Holt Thursday that boosted the Cardinals’ season record to 12-9.
The Cards had opened their week Tuesday in a triangular at Wayne, defeating Pierce and dropping a hard-fought decision to the host Blue Devils.

“Overall, we had a good week,” said BC/NG Coach Susan Roberts. “We lost a close match to Wayne. We played pretty well, but gave up some big runs in a couple of rotations, mainly due to attacking errors.
“Against Pierce, we came out strong and executed more consistently. Pierce really struggled with errors and serve receive, and we took advantage by serving aggressively and executing well on our attack.”
Tessa Hedlund paced the Card attack with 10 kills in the 25-21, 25-21 win over Pierce. Wayne scored a 25-15, 16-25, 25-20 victory over BC/NG despite a balanced Cards attack that produced 31 kills. Kramer led at the net with nine kills, Slizoski added eight and Hedlund seven. Slizoski spearheaded BC/NG’s 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 sweep at West Holt with 11 kills.
