UPDATE: Recount planned in Commissioner race

A recount of ballots is planned for the District 2 Boone County Commissioner race from the primary election, according to Boone County Clerk Kathy Thorberg.
She said she was first advised by the Secretary of State’s office that an automatic recount would only take place if the vote difference was one percent or less. However, she was later advised that, when the total ballots cast in a race is less than 500, a difference of two percent or less would qualify for an automatic recount. This is based on the number of votes received by the top vote-getter.
A total of 439 ballots were cast in the District 2 commissioner race.
Tom Fick’s unofficial total was 121 votes, while Steve Rasmussen received 119 votes — a difference of 1.6 percent.
Thorberg said election officials will do a recount of the race within the next several days.
