Don Thorberg will be stepping into retirement this Friday, July 1, after 31 years as manager of the lumber yard in Albion.
He said he is looking forward to spending more time with his grandchildren, working around the house and yard, and following his favorite pastimes, baseball and bowling.
“I’ve made lots of good friends here through the years, and I’ll miss them the most,” said Don.
Brian Nathan of Fullerton will become the new manager of Albion’s Cedar Valley Lumber store on July 1, and Don will celebrate at a 5 p.m. retirement party.
Don grew up on a farm east of Petersburg and graduated from Albion High School in 1968. He then attended Wayne State College, earning a bachelor’s degree in business in 1972.
After holding several jobs in Albion, he started as a yard man and salesman with Carhart Lumber in 1980.
He became the store manager in 1985.
