Workers were placing the first of many precast concrete wall panels at the Boone Central School project Tuesday morning, Sept. 6. The installation began near the building’s former east entrance. A total of seven panels were placed in that area Tuesday.
Bruce Niessen, site superintendent for Sampson Construction Co., said more panels will be installed in the southeast corner this week. Then, workers will begin tying in the walls before placing more panels. He noted that rain could delay the process.
The panels are being lifted from semi trailers and placed on the concrete foundations by a large crane. The process of installing panels will likely be in progress through mid-September. One block of Columbia Street is being reserved for trucks delivering the wall panels during the workdays. Motorists are asked to avoid using Fifth Street past the school during this phase of construction.
