Albion native Jeff Atkinson just wrapped up a very successful run Sept. 11-16, in a national racing event, HOT ROD Drag Week, presented by Gear Vendors Under/Overdrive.
This is an event where street/strip cars are driven 1,000-plus miles on public roads during a trip that includes four dragstrips and five races in five days.
The drag race cars must be capable of running on pump gas for the street/highway portion of this event, but they can be converted to run on nitrous oxide or other racing fuels for the racing portion.
Jeff, the son of Jim and Janet Atkinson of Albion, has often returned to Albion to exhibit his cars in the annual Smoke ‘n Chrome Car Show.
In this national event, he drove his yellow 1969 Camaro over 1,000 miles and raced at five different tracks during the week.
