Cardinal softball 11-12 after perfect week

Looking to build momentum for the upcoming conference and district tournaments, Boone Central/Newman Grove scored a pair of exciting softball victories this past week.
Boone Central/Newman Grove hosted Ord Tuesday, Sept. 20, and used two sixth-inning runs to edge the Chanticleers 5-4.
The Cardinals got the jump, scoring twice in the second inning. Jaclyn Frey started the frame with a base hit, Keiley Tisthammer reached on an Ord error, and Karlie Tisthammer drove in Frey with a line drive to left field. Keiley Tisthammer made it 2-0, racing home on a passed ball. BC/NG added a run in the third when Taylor Olnes and Frey cracked back-to-back two-out hits.
Ord fought back with two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to lead 4-3, But Boone Central/Newman Grove had a rally of its own in store. Olnes and Frey drew crucial walks, Keiley Tisthammer drove in the tying run, and Riley Boyd tallied the winner on Karlie Tisthammer’s double. Keiley Tisthammer and the Card defense shut Ord down in the top of the seventh to secure BC/NG’s 10th win of the season.
Boone Central/Newman Grove hit the road Thursday and claimed an 8-5 triumph at West Point-Beemer.
The Cardinals again had a quick start, as Frey blasted a home run to center field. The host Cadets cut a 5-0 BC/NG lead to 5-4 in the third inning, but the Cards added single runs in the fourth and sixth and carried a 6-5 edge into the final frame.
BC/NG scored a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh, with Paige Ketteler collecting her fourth single of the game. Tisthammer shackled WP-B in the bottom of the inning to preserve the win.
Emily Groeteke started on the mound for BC/NG, allowing four runs on four hits. Tisthammer came on to hurl five strong innings, allowing a single run (unearned) on three hits and fanning 12 Cadets.
