BC/NG volleyers score Senior Night victory

In many ways, it was an encouraging week for the Boone Central/Newman Grove volleyball team.
After splitting matches in a Tuesday triangular, the Cardinals honored their 2016 seniors with a 3-0 Senior Night victory over visiting West Holt Thursday.
“We feel good about our last two performances,” said BC/NG Coach Susan Roberts. “We’ve played with more consistency and executed well both offensively and defensively.
“We will look to keep building on that through the remainder of our regular season games as we approach our conference tournament.”
Boone Central/Newman Grove (8-13) began Tuesday’s triangular in Albion slowly, dropping a 19-25, 12-25 decision to Wayne (14-9). The Blue Devils dominated at the net, nearly doubling kills on the Cardinals (29-15).Jenna Kramer, Nicole Woebbecke and Karley Zoucha all had four kills for BC/NG, as Kelsey Thompson set 14 assists.
BC/NG rebounded with a solid 25-18, 25-19 win over Pierce (11-10) in its second match of the night.
Thompson directed the attack with 17 assists, as Woebbecke slammed seven kills and Kramer five. Kramer added a pair of blocks, six digs and two ace serves, while Woebbecke and Thompson made five digs apiece.
Boone Central/Newman Grove channeled the emotion of Senior Night into a focus that produced a dominant 25-15, 25-18, 25-17 victory over West Holt (6-11) Thursday.
Senior Tessa Hedlund fired four of those aces and freshman Lauren Hedlund three. Kramer had another strong all-around match with 11 kills, two blocks and two aces and senior Karley Zoucha fired off seven kills. Lauren Hedlund had six kills and 10 digs to go with her serving success and Thompson finished with 29 assists and five digs.
