Seniors always want to make their final competition count – especially if that happens to be in the Nebraska State Cross Country Championships.
Boone Central/Newman Grove Cardinal senior Christina Stopak did just that Friday at the Kearney Country Club.
Stopak, fresh off her first career victory in the C-2 District, went out strong in the Class C championship race and stayed the course in earning the medal for fourth place. Stopak’s teammate, sophomore Katie Goodwater, also put her best foot forward to finish in the top twenty.
Boone Central/Newman Grove Coach Tom Dickey certainly came away impressed.
“We had a great day at Kearney!” Dickey praised. “Having two girls made a difference for both of them – they sort of formed their own team.
“Class C was very competitive this season, and I think our gals really stood out among some of the best.”
Stopak’s time of 20:22 over the Kearney Country Club terrain was a personal best and the top Boone Central time on the UNK course. Goodwater’s 21:19 clocking was also a personal best, #6 all-time by Boone Central runners.
