The Boone Central/Newman Grove Cardinals opened their 2016-17 season in impressive fashion this past weekend.

BC/NG got off to a strong start in the contest, racing to a 17-10 lead by the end of the first quarter, and held on to a 30-26 advantage at halftime The Cardinals took a six-point edge into the final quarter and outscored the hosts 13-8 in crunch time to secure the win.
Boone Central/Newman Grove shot 50 percent overall from the field (21-of-42) and 50 percent from the three-point arc (4-of-8). Two keys to the victory were the Cards’ advantages in points off of turnovers (24-9) and rebounding (30-25).
Jessie Sullivan muscled his way to 21 points to lead BC/NG. Derek Stuhr tallied 11, Cody Nelson and Dylan Gentrup seven apiece, Tanner Schafer six and Carter Henry five.

Boone Central/Newman Grove hosted Lakeview Saturday for its home opener and stifled the Vikings in a 58-30 rout.
