Community Club discusses Santa Day, Christmas Supper

Petersburg Community Club met Monday, Dec. 5, 2016. Items discussed included Santa Day, Christmas supper, Christmas drawings and decorations, and Puttin’ in P-Town.
Santa Day
Santa is scheduled to visit Petersburg on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016 at 11 a.m. Children are invited to come at 10 a.m. for crafts, games and other activities in the fire hall community room. Connie Stuhr will serve as chairman for the activities and she could use some extra help.
New this year will be horse and wagon rides at 10:30 a.m. prior to Santa’s arrival.
The committee is encouraging those attending to bring a container of canned goods to donate to the Boone County Food Pantry.
Christmas Supper/Entertainment
Tickets are on sale at Great Plains State Bank for the annual Petersburg Community Club Christmas supper and show. The committee feels the entertainment looks great and a limited number of tickets will be sold.
Jennifer Leifeld said she has sold some tickets at her furniture store in Albion. She added that people have said that they can’t believe how well Petersburg works together.
Christmas Drawings/Decorations
The Great Plains State Bank Christmas drawings are in full swing. The bank gives away a total of $2,000 for the three weeks leading up to Christmas. Residents are encouraged to drop their Petersburg sales slip with their name on it into the box at the bank for a chance to win. All attending agreed that it was great to have the bank do this for the community.
Preliminary results of the Big Give shows donors were up and there were online donations as well.
The Christmas decorations are up, but the tall Christmas tree is not lit because of problems with the lights.
The ABC Club has put up additional decorations on the boulevard which adds to the holiday spirit.
Puttin’ in P-Town
Eric Petsche, Puttin’ in P-Town chairman, stated that the committee had met and the tentative date is Jan. 21, 2016 with golf starting at 6 p.m. He felt there could be a couple of businesses added this year, and he will be checking with participating businesses. Hopefully, there will be more teams in 2017. All businesses participating must be community club members.
Sign up would be at the Legion which would also be a first hole. Registration will be appreciated.
Knotty Pine will be asked to prepare food for the golfers. This would be the last hole.
Team play will be scheduled so there will be a steady stream of golfers and not a hold up at one spot.
Teams will be made up of four team members, if possible. All felt this was a fun way of getting people in their business, and you do not need to know how to play golf to be on a team. This game is fun for everyone. There will be a small entry fee.
