BC/NG wrestlers vie in duals

The Boone Central wrestling team faced some tough competition in duals this past week that should make the Cardinals better as the season progresses.
BC/NG began its week at Grand Island Northwest, dropping a 70-12 decision to the Class B Vikings. Garrett Cornwell (152) and Trey Schafer (160) got pins for the Cards.
“Northwest is a solid team, but we did not have our best performance, winning only two of nine contested matches,” said Cardinal Coach Dale Bonge. “As long as we can take this loss, learn from it and make improvements, it can be beneficial down the road.”
Boone Central/Newman Grove returned home Thursday to entertain Class D #4 Creighton and lost an abbreviated dual to the Bulldogs, 48-24.
“Both teams were short on numbers – only six matches were contested and all ended in pins,” Bonge noted. “This was a better outing than Tuesday, but still a ways from where we need to get. Hopefully we can get to full strength for the upcoming week.
Schafer and Cornwell again scored wins on the mat Thursday and the Cardinals claimed two more matches by way of forfeit.
Schafer stuck opponent JD Kuhlman in 1:00 to open the dual and Cornwell closed action with the most entertaining match of the night.
