Valasek leads area All-State basketball recognition

Riverside High School senior Noah Valasek was named Honorary Captain of the 2017 Class D2 All-State basketball 1st team by the Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal-Star this past weekend.
The 5-foot-11 Valasek led the Chargers to a 24-5 record and 4th place finish in the Nebraska State Basketball Championships, averaging 21.5 points per game. He was joined on the D2 1st team by Lance Moore of D2 champion Mullen, Henry Tanksley of Lincoln Parkview, Mead’s Josh Quinn and Jalen Wieseler of Wynot.
Valasek was the only Albion News area athlete to earn 1st or 2nd team All-State honors, but a number of area players received Honorable Mention for their 2017 efforts.
Senior Derek Stuhr and juniors Jessie Sullivan and Dylan Gentrup were honorable mention in the Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal-Star in Class C1. Receiving C2 honorable mention in the OWH and LJS were Ashton Dohmen, Logen Beller, Derek Reardon and Kenny Osten of Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family. Class D2 honorable mention included Riverside’s Riley Swerczek and Tredyn Prososki, Jonah Micek of St. Edward and Mathew Bloom, Robbie Thome and Zach Diessner of Spalding Academy.
Seniors Tessa Hedlund and Bailey Reigle and freshman Lauren Hedlund of Boone Central/Newman Grove received Class C1 honorable mention and Taya Beller, Morgan Frauendorfer and Jenna Beller of Humphrey/LHF were honorable mention in C2. Class D2 honorable mention selections included Kalie Bloom of Riverside and Briana McKay, Erin Stevens and Kelly Kleffner of state tourney qualifier Spalding Academy.
