BC/NG golfers in major tournaments

Nathan Gottier led the Boone Central/Newman Grove boys golf team in competition last week, placing 2nd in the Scotus Invitational Watson Division – the best performance by a Cardinal during the 2017 spring season.
BC/NG (401) took 3rd place in the Watson Division team competition Thursday behind Shelby-Rising City (365) and Logan View (394), as Gottier fired an 18-hole score of 89 at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus. Gavin Nielsen of Logan View edged Gottier for the gold medal with an 88.
Card Garrett Cornwell just missed the medal stand, losing a playoff for 10th place after carding a 97. Kade Noble (107) and Bradon Anderson (108) round out the BC/NG team total.
Boone Central/Newman Grove traveled to Indian Trails Golf Course Saturday for the annual Mid-State Conference Championships. The Cardinals finished 9th in a tough league field with a 421 total.
Gottier again led BC/NG, shooting 103 and finishing 32nd among 45 varsity golfers. Cornwell and Garret Niewohner each shot 104 in the tournament. Kayden Olnes of BC/NG shot 107 in the JV portion of the event.
Hartington Cedar Catholic (345) was the 2017 Mid-State champion, with Trojan Capp Bengston (79) capturing the conference golf medal.
