St. Michael’s honors Bankers, retiring music director

St. Michael’s School in Albion honored retiring music director Tom Bankers following the school’s spring concert Monday evening, May 8, in St. Michael’s Church.
The concert featured vocal music by all grade levels, as well as the fifth and sixth grade band and seventh and eighth grade concert band.
Bankers, a native of Fargo, ND, came to Nebraska through his military service. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in music education at Moorhead State College, which is now Minnesota State University Moorhead. He later earned a Masters degree at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
He has taught music at St. Michael’s for the past six years. He taught previously at St. Edward, 1986-94, and taught both the St. Edward and Cedar Rapids music programs from 1991 to 1994. He then taught at Valley, NE, from 1994 to 2006.
He is credited with building an outstanding music program at St. Michael’s during the past six years.
At the end of Monday night’s program, Mr. Bankers was presented an appreciation gift by Father Mark Tomasiewicz and Mike Malander, St. Michael’s School Board president, and the audience stood to applaud.
Mrs. Carol Nelson of Genoa will be the music director next year at St. Michael’s School.
