Sullivan, Wagner record placing efforts at state track/field

Despite extremely unpleasant weather conditions for much of the weekend, five Boone Central/Newman Grove Cardinals had the honor of concluding the 2017 track & field season in the Nebraska State Championships at Omaha Burke Stadium.
Senior Dalton Wagner and junior Jessie Sullivan produced placing performances in the weight events that the pair have been a 1-2 punch in all spring. Sullivan took 5th in the Class B discus (153’8), while Wagner placed 8th in a loaded B shot put field (50’1). Sullivan was right behind his teammate in the shot put, finishing 9th (49’8½) and Wagner finished 14th in the discus competition (128’8).
Card junior Cody Nelson cleared 5’10 in the high jump, finishing in a tie for 15th with a large group of jumpers after narrowly nudging off the bar coming down after easily clearing the following height.
On the track, Boone Central/Newman Grove sophomore Kelsey Thompson competed in the 400 meter dash, finishing 6th (1:02.31) in the 2nd heat of the prelims Friday. Senior Christina Stopak finished her high school running career with a time of 12:38.53 in the 3200 meter run.
