Albion Cornerstone Juniors fall in tourney

Albion Cornerstone Legion Baseball dropped a pair of contests in the Central City Junior Legion baseball tournament Saturday.
Central City 8, Cornerstone Jrs. 6
The Albion Cornerstone Juniors fell behind Central City early, then saw their rally attempts come up short in an 8-6 loss.
Cornerstone narrowed its deficit to 7-5 in the third, parlaying three more walks, a Central City error and Wright’s base hit to get Dalton Rasmussen, Dozler and Tyson Haddix to the plate. Central City tallied its final run in the bottom of the frame when Rutherford doubled and scored.
Albion Cornerstone stranded Central City baserunners at third base in the fourth and sixth innings to give itself a chance to rally. Haddix walked and scored on Martinsen’s single to make it 8-6 in the fifth. Cornerstone got two base hits and had runners at second and third in the top of the seventh before a final strikeout ended the contest.
York 22, Cornerstone Jrs. 8
Albion Cornerstone faced York in its second game of the tourney, collapsing under a barrage of seventh-inning runs in the 22-8 York victory.
The teams went to the seventh tied 6-6, where York emphatically pounded out the victory. Eight base hits in the top of the inning were accompanied by four Albion errors and two free passes, as 20 batters came to the plate and 16 runs scored.
Cornerstone got a two-run home run by Rasmussen in the bottom of the seventh, but left a pair of additional runners on base and fell far short of rallying.
