Boone Central/Newman Grove split games in a softball triangular Thursday at the Albion Sports Complex, giving the Cardinals a 1-2 record in the 2017 season’s first week of action.
BC/NG earned its first victory of the new campaign in the night’s opener, with junior pitcher Keiley Tisthammer twirling a no-hitter in a 10-0 whitewash of Schuyler.
Tisthammer ranged from efficient to dominant, striking out two batters in three of four innings and finishing with seven ‘K’s’ in all. Schuyler’s only baserunner came on a leadoff walk in the third.
The Cardinals scored all the runs they would need in the bottom of the first, taking a 5-0 lead with two walks and four base hits.
“Everyone contributed in this game, providing key hits when needed,” praised Card Coach Danielle Amen.
