With many activities underway locally and throughout the area, attendance was somewhat lower for the 2017 Rhythm & Ribs celebration in downtown Albion last Saturday, Aug. 26.
An estimated 700 people attended Rhythm & Ribs for various parts of the day. The barbecue tasting portion, which started at 12 noon, was again the most popular and drew the largest crowd.
The number of grilling teams was down slightly from last year, with 20 teams competing for the $2,200 in total prize money. Many children turned out in the afternoon for the bounce houses and games.
“When you consider all that was going on all over the area that day, I think it was still successful,” said Chamber President Barb Krohn.
The “Susie Q Barbecue” team of Cliff and Clint Palmer won the People’s Choice Barbecue Award. Their entry was in memory of the late Susan Palmer.
A new team, Mickey’s Smoked Meats of Grand Island, emerged in first place in the ribs category. Team members are Mickey Hatcher and Jim Johnson.
