It did not take long for Boone Central freshman Abby Brodersen to capture her first high school golf medal.
Playing in her first varsity tournament, Brodersen placed fifth in the West Holt Invitational Aug. 31 at the Atkinson-Stuart Country Club. Boone Central finished seventh in the 11-team field.
Brodersen shot rounds of 49/52 on the nine-hole layout for a tournament total of 101.
Boone Central finished 8th in the Lakeview Invite Thursday, Sept. 7, as Cardinal freshman Abby Brodersen captured third among individual medalists.
Brodersen recorded a 48/45-93 to finish just two strokes back of runner-up Kaitlyn Enderline (91) of Scotus.
Boone Central totaled 492 in the team competition. Along with Brodersen’s 93, Card scoring was: Ashley Mewhirter (119), Maggie Cleveland (137), Kauren Kohtz (143) and Lilly Reel (161).
Boone Central traveled north Saturday for the Pierce Invitational, finishing 6th in the 11-team field.
Brodersen continued her strong start to the campaign, placing fourth among individuals with a 45/47-92. Paige Peters (Pender Thurston County), Cassidy Ulrich (Cedar Catholic) and Sydney Erickson (Pierce) all carded 90s.
The Cardinals recorded a 470 team score, with Mewhirter (119), Cleveland (121), Reel (138) and Kohtz (149) joining Brodersen.
