For the second straight week, Cardinal cross country Coach Tom Dickey was pleased and impressed with his young runners.
The Boone Central/Newman Grove girls won the team title at the Norfolk Catholic Invitational Friday and freshman Jonny Lindgren was the gold medalist in the boys race, as BC/NG placed fourth.
“We had a really nice day at Skyview Lake. Even though the temperatures were much too warm after the cool weather we’ve had, the kids competed well,” Dickey commented. “Obviously, we’re excited about how well the girls came together as a team and Jonny’s first big victory, but I was just as pleased with the improvement and progress we’re making all down the line. All four teams are very eager to race again and prove they can continue this nice streak.”
The Card girls ran away with the team title, finsihing with 19 points to runner-up O’Neill’s 43. Frosh Sam Weeder led BC/NG, placing second in 21:00, the fastest Boone Central time ever recorded on the Skyview course. Jordan Stopak (21:26) was right behind in third with the fifth best BC time ever. Katie Goodwater (23:05) also placed in the top 10 at ninth.
Lindgren’s big run resulted in a time of 17:52 – his first high school career victory and sixth best Boone Central time at the course.
