Boone Central/Newman Grove concluded the second week of the 2017 volleyball season with a fourth place finish in the Boone Central Invitational Saturday.
BC/NG opened the tourney with an exciting and hard-fought 27-25, 22-25, 25-20 victory over Central City, staving off four set points to rally for the first game victory. Nicole Woebbecke (9) and Carsen Grape (7) led BC/NG kills, as Kelsey Thompson directed with 13 assists. Thompson also served three aces and Kylee Rasmussen added a pair.
The Cardinals ran into a buzz saw in their second match, dropping a 25-5, 25-13 decision to Stanton. Woebbecke (5) was the only Card with more than one kill in the match.Mariah Olson led BC/NG digs with seven.
Boone Central/Newman Grove finished the day losing the third place match to Tekamah-Herman (25-15, 25-20). Woebbecke and Rasmussen had four kills apiece in the match, and Grape and Payton Nelson chipped in three each. Thompson had six assists and McKenna Haase served two aces for BC/NG.
Boone Central/Newman Grove actually got its week off to a strong start Thursday with a 3-1 victory over host Guardian Angels CC at West Point (25-14, 22-25, 25-21, 25-18).
BC/NG totaled 32 kills in the match, led by Woebbecke (11), Grape (7) and Nelson (6). The Cardinals were also strong at the net defensively, with Rasmussen making five blocks, Thompson and Nelson four apiece, and Woebbecke three. Haase had four of BC/NG’s 11 aces and Thompson three.
