Card cross country runners thrive again

Once again, Boone Central/Newman Grove’s cross country competitors had a successful day and pleased Cardinal Coach Tom Dickey at Thursday’s Scotus Invitational in Columbus.
The Cardinal girls literally ran away from their competition, winning the team title and sweeping the top two positions individually. The BC/NG boys placed a solid sixth, with freshman Jonny Lindgren garnering a third-place finish.
“Another very good day for the Cardinals!” exclaimed Dickey. “The girls just took things into their own hands and walked away from a very good Scotus team. I was really impressed with how easily they ran on such a crummy day – it was much too hot!
“Jonny (Lindgren) took on some extremely high-class competition. He ran right with the 2016 Class C state champion and looked pretty comfortable doing it,” Dickey added. “The rest of the guys were a bit shocked by the competition and heat, but worked really hard to get to each other.”
The BC/NG girls were paced by Sam Weeder, who claimed her first high school career victory in 20:50. Jordan Stopak was right behind, placing second in 21:08. Lindgren earned his third-place medal with a 17:19 clocking.
