Boone Central/Newman Grove’s varsity softball squad concluded play this past week with a 12-9 season mark.
The Cardinals traveled to Ord Tuesday, Sept. 19, and could not muster enough offense in a 9-1 loss to the host Chants.
Ord took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, doubled its advantage with two runs in the third, then capped the triumph by scoring five times in the bottom of the fifth. BC/NG managed just three total hits and a single run in the top of the fifth.
Boone Central/Newman Grove turned things around Thursday in Albion, defeating West Point-Beemer 6-3.
“This was a great game to watch, you could see in the girls’ faces that they were ready to play and were enjoying every minute of it,” noted Cardinal Coach Danielle Amen.
BC/NG was aided by a strong start that produced a 4-0 lead after one inning. Ashtin Kaumans led off the bottom of the inning with a bunt single and Hedlund singled. Walks by Taylor Olnes and Keiley Tisthammer scored the Cards’ initial run and Karlie Tisthammer’s line drive drove in a second. BC/NG would bat through the order and add two more runs before they were done.
The hosts held a 5-0 advantage before West Point-Beemer tried to mount a late charge with a run in the sixth inning and two in the top of the seventh.
